Ugetsu

Chu-Bra is a long running manga by Nakata Yumi. The story line is a little preposterous, but it's easy to get hooked on the characters. It is set in a high school, where a couple of the girls are from families concerned with making underwear. One of them, Nayu Hayama, is basically obsessed with ladies underwear and making sure everyone has healthy undies that fit well. She seems completely unaware of the erotic side of underwear, and she forms a school club devoted to the appreciation of "Shitagi." The other side of the coin is Kiyono Amahara who thinks only of the sexy side of underwear, and "uses underwear as a weapon."

Ugetsu

This is most of the last six pages. A couple of places there is tiny writing like furigana, but what it says is different from the larger writing it is next to. The tiny writing includes 大人の相手 otona-no aite, partner of an adult, and ショーツ shorts. I think these are kind of "asides" but I didn't know what to do with them other than translate them with the dialog text. The writing in the last panel is sort of "hand writing" and it's harder to read -- with Hiroshi and the paper bag.

Kiyono reaches down for her fork, and sees Mom playing footsie with Suzuki.

Suzuki continues, drops of sweat signaling that he knows he has talked himself into trouble.

か。。　　替えのフオーク　持ってくるよ！

Kiyono can't resist reproaching her Mom for her behavior:

We see Nayu deep in thought, holding the returned panties, and nearby we see Kiyono standing and a little cameo of Suzuki's face. Nayu thinks:

Final panel shows Hiroshi, from earlier in the chapter. He has the paper bag on his desk and a pencil and notebook, but his head is down and there are radiating lines like heat streaming off his body. Hiroshi has "fox ears" that spring up when he is suspicious, and he's got his fox ears. Obviously he is torn, should he look inside the bag?

Well, my translator (Kiten) gives

乙女 (おとめ) = daughter, young lady, virgin, little girl.
Since Kiyono's mum is more talking to herself, I'd see it more as 'Ah... my daughter' or 'Tsk, this young lady...'

Thanks @Nitrogen, I edited in your corrections and made a few other changes. As I mentioned elsewhere, Kiyono seems to love to use the verb form ending in -desho or -daro which means "probably." I have been editing to take that into account. Suzuki also has kind of an accent, which may be why so much of his dialogue is spelled out in kana. For example he says "mutsukashi" instead of "muzukashi" for "difficult. I have to change some words like that to make Google Translate understand the meaning.

I think somewhere there is a "hole" in the middle of a sentence, where there were a couple of kanji that I left for later. I need to do a line by line comparison with the original and see if I skipped something. At any rate we get the sense of the chapter pretty nicely from what we've done here.

FWIW Step 40 is a continuation of Step 39. Kiyono is staying with the transvestite boy, and she has a huge confrontation with her Mom and with Suzuki. It is interesting, sometimes Kiyono is drawn almost like a toddler, very young looking, and other times it is hard to tell her from her mother, she looks like a grown woman. That is always true but in this chapter it is extreme.

I checked the rest and it seemed to make sense. You forgot Kiyono's 大丈夫 after Suzuki dropped the plate.

I think this is one of the pivotal chapters. Another one is 18 where Haruka meets Keigo. I'll see if I can have a crack at that one.

Yes, I plan to scan 40. BTW after Chapter 21 there is some Tankoubon stuff which is not in the online scan. For example the next page has a sexy picture of Kiyono's mom with "to be continued" written in English over the top. Then there are six more pages of kind of random looking stuff, not a continuation of this story but clearly interesting. I will scan the extra pages here as well. Will let you know when it's done. And anyone here to look for Chu-Bra can get theirs as well.
