Would it translate well into book form? A lot of the punch lines and emotions of the manga require the physical picture of the character's expression to effectively relay the emotions within the scene. Would a novel detract from that emotional intensity?

I'm asking because I'm interested in writing up a KnJ novel (based on the storyline of course) and want to know what you guys think. There are some scenes that are going to be hard to put into words, but Im sure I can find my way around them. But the novel would be more focused on Rin and Aoki's relationship.

Also, how should it be written?
3rd person?
1st person? If so, from Rin or Aoki's point of view?

I think, depending on the ability of the author, any story could potentially be expressed through any medium. If it sounds like a fun thing to do, why not try it out and see if it works for you.

On a related topic, I wonder why there isn't more KnJ text-only fanfic. 8 years ago when I was last an anime/manga fan, whenever I liked a series that wasn't popular enough in English-speaking fandom to have a fanfic culture, it was easy to find websites with Japanese-language stories. I don't know if things have changed too much in the past several years and if maybe more fans have taken such activity offline. But when I try searching for KnJ-based fiction, all I can find are references to ero doujinshi. If that's all there is, then that's a pity, because I think KnJ is a really compelling story that deserves to inspire more than just fan-made porn (of the PWP and OOC sort). So I support any KnJ fan who tries to do something different.

I don't want to make a fan-fic though, I want to take every chapter of the manga that's been released, and write it all up into one big KnJ story. Though I still want to make a fan-fic, I want to do this first. Basically i want to archive all the KnJ that we know so far, and make a textual reference for each chapter

Yeah, Im leaning more towards the 3rd person side of things now that I think about it, in terms of side stories and character value it just makes more sense.

And you're right about being nasty when writing. When the human brain is left to it's own devices and has to think out scenes like chapter 65 without any visual aid, it goes wild. That should be an intresting chapter to write

Wow, that was one boring story. Apologizing about the only part that actually sounded like Rin, what a laugh.

On the other hand, good to see there's some stories about KnJ besides the obvious (and more ofthen than not, badly drawn) doujins.

And of course (to get ontopic) please give it a try! I'm always looking for new things to read. You might need to get some things really detailed to get a decent story (it's a lot of chapters but a lot of them will only fill like 3 pages)

Well... I wrote up some dialogues, rough drafts and mind maps for the first chapter so I can get an idea as to how I can lay out the first chapter. I came up with... 1726 words, or 8 full pages in size 12 font. I have a newfound respect for Sayo cuz he has to type all that stuff in. Go do yourself a favour and type out a whole KnJ chapter, it takes WAAAY longer than expected.

Anyway, it's roughly gaining shape, but there's still some things that I need to add and replace (some things don't translate we'll from manga to novel)

i'm kinda against the idea of try to emulate this manga in novel form because
of some bad remake incidents.
a good example might be the Invader Zim remake just recently
I know you want to make it better but sometimes good things need to be left alone.
