I get notified when there is a reply -- and I think @ItAintEazy posted here and then thought better of it. I have been exploring the link -- the whole link is here

ji-hi.net - Jimaku Hikaku - Fansub Comparison - Nichijou TV

and the most amusingly bad translations are the second column (you have to scroll across, there are five parallel translations) which is from "Doki." There is a picture of a tentacle which everyone else labels "squid leg" and Doki labels as "string." The kana looking like ゲン "gen" are right there labeling it.

ゲソ "geso" means squid leg. Hmm?!

At any rate I think I found the "author rant" by Surumeno Oka and I think it is probably ka versus chikara. But it is a difficult font, kinda handwritten looking, and I believe I will scan and upload it. There is also え "e" or something that looks like it, that I think was kinda dubious. Scanning through it the only thing that looks like "7" is a "ko" which tells you a lot about the font.

Hope it's OK that I posted about that site @ItAintEazy.

PS, the post is here after all!!! Never mind.

My way of looking at it is -- we are sending "eyeballs" their way, right?

I mean, if you just display the image with no acknowledgement, you're being a bad guy. But if you provide a link, you've sent them a new "customer."

So what is with these "Doki" guys? Were they just guessing?? Very frequently the other 4 translators would agree perfectly and "Doki" would have something completely off the wall.

And is there something I am missing, maybe I need the joke explained. It looks to me like they spelled "geso" wrong in the first place, but everyone figured out it was a squid tentacle except Doki. I couldn't find a Japanese word for "string" that would resemble "gen" or "geso." Was it some sort of Comedy of Errors or is that just my faulty comprehension of it?

Wow, my guesses were off. Based on the rant uploaded over here, the "7" kanji (if it's the one I think you're thinking) is . 之之之之 is read "Yukino Koreyuki."

I clicked on your link 之 and I can see how it COULD be read that way.

But -- does that mean something? I am feeling kind of lost.

I typed in four of the kanji on Google Translate and it said it would be pronounced "Kore-no Kore-no." This author, Oka, is certainly full of tricks. And he uses that same line at the start of both rants.

I remember my Japanese friend guessing that the line was just "no no no no"

Thanks for working on this @Mayotta!!

Nandato!? I found Nichijou pretty hilarious; sure, there are the slow bits, but not every sketch in Saturday Night Live is going to be a classic, either. And the jokes have to be heard in Japanese, otherwise it really doesn't make sense. I'm so disappointed with the Japanese idea of anime lately, make 13 or 26 episodes, then stop, regardless if the manga is continuing. Move on to the next thing. Unless it's Bleach, Naruto, or One Piece (none of which I will watch)

You can have sexy underwear, or comfy underwear. But not both...

Unless they're shimapan.

I saw that at the bottom of the rant, 之之之之 was listed as the publisher (発行者), so when I googled ""之之之之" publisher" (without the outer set of quotation marks) I got this. Then I looked at the bottom of the rant again and saw the email address (yukinokoreyuki@mail.goo.ne.jp)....

Thanks @Mayotta, now I get it.

I think it's pretty cool that someone figured out you could "spell" that name with four identical kanji.

Japanese is pretty much impossible, isn't it?
