In another thread we talked about the particla "-ga" as an intensifier, and about various forms of the verbs "to like" or "to love" -- kono, suki, daisuki, and ai, attempting to untangle when the different forms are used.
One interesting example is in Book One, when Rin distracts Aoki from Houin by pretending that her leg is hurt. Naturally Aoki offers to carry her home and she gives him bogus directions which take him back to the school, and somehow needles him into saying that he likes her. Then she jumps down and runs home on her own, and (from the bathtub) tells Reiji that "someone at school" had said he liked her. Naturally the verb here is "suki" and he lessens the impact by saying "suki Kokonoe." Thanks @Newnonimous. I found "Koi" in this frame in Book One. It is where Kuro is angry at Aoki (because he asked about Rin's parents) and says "you are the one who hurt Rin-chan" not because of the parents but because "Rin fell in love with you, Sensei." (anata) Sensei-ni koi shite --- あなた 先生に恋して
Manga Fox: Kodomo no Jikan Vol.01 Ch.007: Period 7 Online Manga Scans Amélie Nothomb wrote various books about her time living in Japan, they are pretty interesting. In it she compares the word "Koi" to the fish, which she finds very ugly, and says it means a cool form of "liking." But here and in the dictionary it is translated simply as "love" -- and if you use it in Google Image Search you see lots of couples entangled with each other. So maybe she was wrong, or more likely misleading. I have been thinking of collecting the words Kuro calls Sensei when she's whacking him over the head or kicking him in the balls. Virgin, Pervert, Dummy...

OK, to cover some of the ground in the other topics (but get it right thanks to Nitrogen) here is the last page of Ch.49:
Manga Fox: Kodomo no Jikan Vol.07 Ch.049 Online Manga Scans In the two balloons Rin says "the only one I love is YOU Sensei." 私が 好きなのは = watashi-ga suki nano-ha 先生 だけだつ = sensei dakeda She is using "suki" 好き which most often gets translated as "to like." -Ga is an intensifier, and the final tsu つ means she is using a cut-off, emphatic sounding way of talking. Love can be "ai" = 愛 which (according to this manga) seems to imply requited love or family love, and it can also be "koi" 恋, both kanji include the "heart" character 心. After Rin's father visits the house and Aoki says to let her choose between Reiji and her father, as he is leaving she says "I love you so much." In the original she says だいすき "Daisuki" -- Nitrogen pointed out that the word "daisuki" (big like = love) is simply being spelled out here and this is really the equivalent of 大好き. Sensei is "spelled out" at least half the time, when the children say it especially. http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kodomo...5/c035/25.html The first time Rin says "I love you" is Vol 1, near the end of period 3. http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kodomo...1/c003/23.html "大好き だよ" -- daisuki dayo. And THIS is interesting. In DVD Special 2, Rin-in-disguise says "the children love you (daisuki) -- be sure to love them back (ai!!)" http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kodomo...c049.1/14.html

@Samus: sorry but were you referring to me or Ugetsu(i'm guessing ugetsu)?
@Ugetsu: i was wondering if you know what is the proper way to say a full sentence with japanese words, like for example: "My japanese skills are in need of practice" what would be the way of saying it in japanese(i apologize if it still doesn't make any sense)?
