Tell us, if you would please, the moments in the anime (and the 4-chapter OVA) you think are Deadly Serious -- that made you realize KoJiKa isn't fluff to be trifled with.
I'll list one of the many, just keep in mind I've only seen the whole thing twice. 1. Aoki-sensei's about to open the door to Mimi's room. You see her from behind. The door clicks to open, and about quarter second later, she jumps. A little, not much -- but I've had that jump myself, when greeting The Thing I Was Dreading. Wow. That moment alone sold me. And yours?

I think this video will pretty much shows how deadly serious the anime is, it's something Samus showed us a long time ago....

I agree that the subject matter is serious. I don't have a good answer because I'm more paper oriented, I have seen KnJ as a manga and have not paid nearly as much attention to the anime. Of course there are pages in the manga that kind of break your heart, one of my favorite pictures of Rin is from an early chapter where she says "Sensei can't love me because he thinks I'm a child!" Maybe I can look that one up...
Wow, scary, I guessed Chapter 20 and I was right. Wording different, sense is the same. http://www.mangareader.net/544-30580...hapter-20.html

Hmm... Yeah that was pretty sad, to realize that a relationship between adult and child could never happen.... but now thankfully it looks like it will happen! Things have changed a lot for them and it seems like a bright future for Rin and Aoki.

I know the book has more of a following than the anime, but I want to keep this thread focused on the anime. I figure that most readers here are more familiar with the book, myself included, and discussing the anime may be of interest. Watching the whole sequence of Rin and the cranes -- by then you know the anime and the story are dead serious, but I'll tell ya whut -- I bawled when I saw that in the manga, the 2-page spread of Rin by Aki's futon, amid a sea of cranes -- but seeing that animated was just as powerful, and the reaction was no less potent. I cried. But, like I said, that moment is far into the anime, so by the one already knows how this story is. Rin's reaction at seeing Aoki knocked out when she fell off the tree while trying to save Nya -- that was pretty powerful in the anime. It was done differently than the book -- a blood-red background, the cranes, and a quick few flashes of death iconography -- and suddenly Rin's losing it, screaming -- she's scared that another close / loved one has died. That moment was heavy. It's very early on, and it's kind of a smash against the light, bouncy side of KnJ. And that's for another thread -- the light moments, the funny ones that let you know that even in the darkest of lives, there is light. Even if at times it seems it's just a candle.
