Actually, naive would be more the word than idiotic. Aoki is naive because he doesn't take Rin seriously and tries to down-play her actions as just a mere phase. Reiji is naive because he doesn't get that Rin sees him as a father figure and nothing more. He lives in denial and tries to make Rin something she's not, and that's Aki. But because Rin is starting to look more like Aki as she get's older is what's feeding his delusions. Reiji is going to have to face reality that Rin is not Aki, no matter how much he wishes for this. Also, as you said, Rin's happiness has to be of her own making and not his. We'll see what chapter 58 reveals to us.
