Now, admittedly, I am a guy... But considering that Rin was significantly oversexualized before her sexual awakening, the fact that she masturbates "a lot" probably isn't that unusual. (By 'a lot', I'm assuming once or twice a day.)
As for Rin's knowledge of porn stars... There's a lot of knowledge floating around out there that kids pick up peripherally. Given how heavily sex saturates the media today and the flow of information on the internet, pre-chapter 42 Rin was a girl with a lot of knowledge of sex, but nothing with which to put that information in context; she knew what sex was in literal terms, but didn't really understand it. Where she found out about porn stars is probably the same place where she found out about what a 'clit' was. (She demonstrated that she at least knew it existed at the sports festival. After Aoki tells her she 'smells like piss,' saying that she's immature, she offers to let him 'lick her clit till she cum', or some line to that effect.)
Edit: And I don't care for the masturbation panels. I thought that the now-infamous Chapter 42 was exceptionally well done and tasteful, emotionally powerful and touching; most of the stuff after that has been downright lolicon service, completely unnecessary, and detracts from the story and message.
