While that might be true, it's not Aoki's job to do this; it's Reiji's (although, since Reiji has no actual custody, it's probably Rin's father's). I feel that Aoki is getting himself too deeply involved with the troubles of Rin (and perhaps Mimi in the future too) which I am not sure is a good thing for both Rin and Aoki. In a year or two, Rin will move to middle school and Aoki will no longer be her teacher. Who is she going to rely on then, when her beloved Aoki is no longer around? Therefore, I feel it is better if Aoki keeps some distance in order for the inevitable separation to be less difficult.
To be honest, I would love this series to end with Rin going to middle school and that after a 'six years later' you see Rin (who is now of legal age) marrying Aoki. Even though he's about 15 years older, it would be nice to see them ending up happy together.
